hopes and goals
This year was unexpectedly fun with it's rides with ups and downs. I came in here excitedly wondering about all the things we will learn. I honestly wanted to learn about the reproductive system, and how it work. I've always been interested in this since I got to witness some of my nephews and one of my niece's birth. These moments had me in awe. As for humanities, I hoped to get better at my writing. I didn't know we were going to have to do so much of it with The Power Within project. I honestly didn't want to present my story or talk for my POL, because that wasn't a goal or hope for me. That hope and goal was for my mom and teachers.
memorable moments
If I had to pick very few memorable moments of this first semester it would have to show my strong feelings toward someone or something. I really liked the moments when Thalia knew how to calm me when I was upset. If I was stressed or mad at someone I would be the first to tell her something. She would always let me express my feelings, which would make me feel better about myself. Thalia showed me that I wasn't alone to have certain feeling towards someone or something. Everything would be fine because she was one of the few people to make my life better. Even when I picked up sign language, Thalia wanted to learn just for me. This was helpful for both of us! I could now communicate with her in class, when I needed help, or to let her know something. She's picked up really fast, and learns new words everyday. Even though she might say she doesn't know sign language or can't understand what I sign she really does understand. I've been signing words as review, and she usually gets it right all the time, except when she's in stress mode. But other than that she's fine, then she understands what I sign when she can process it. If I do go too fast for her all she has to do is sign slow or again, and then I understand and sign better. This is very beneficial for me because if I ever find myself communicating to a person with ASL outside of school then I already know how to sign clearly with my sign language.
Not only did I share moments with Thalia gotten to know her better, but I've shared memorable moments with Lorena as well. Lorena is another friend that I got to create memorable moments with, and she too found ways to calm me down from stressing. Even letting me play with her puzzle toys or letting me color in her book. Her ways were so different for getting me calm, and I appreciate that. Teaching her sign language is a new way for her to communicate. I enjoy teaching her sign language, it's a new and efficient way, so I don't have to talk. She's very patient with me taking my time to talk, even though it could be a while. Lorena even showed her support for me saying,"You've got this! You can do this!" when it was my night to read my narrative. She even supported me through my POL . These are the moments I'll never forget, even with peers I've gotten to know more.
Another best moment was when my reading group was showing their support to me. They kept encouraging me that I would get through this , and I will be fine. My group never stopped their encouragement, even on the day of our performance night for The Power Within. I didn't think I would be able to read my story out loud, but I did! I never felt a more sucess feeling that I could finally say,"I've read out loud, or I did it!". Overall these are my most memorable moments I'v made as a junior at High Tech High Chula Vista.

How I'm evolving as a student
This year as a student I'm stilling evolving to become my best everyday. I'm trying to be the one who learns to be independent, and learn to be away from my mom. I've come so far showing my speaking from recording, video, and speaking publicly. I still find it hard to speak to people, and found away around that. I've learned to communicate with sign language, which is a little bit easier to communicate with friends. I've been so dedicated to go every Fridays to get my learning in ASL, and want to improve to communicate with other people someday. My sign language teachers notices my improvements because I able to sign to her, and she completely gets me. When I try to sign to other people the don't get me, but when I sign to Lorena and Thalia they understand me with the vocabulary they've been building. As a person and a student I'm working to learn another language, and won't slow down anytime soon to perfect my signs and vocabulary. As a student, I'm finding more ways showing what I know by communicating in a different way.
