Expectations
My expectations for environmental science wasn't really much. I just decided that it would be the usual, which was just how to keep our living environment safe and clean. How to take care of our oceans free of toxic waste, so animals won't eat anything to harm or kill them. I never really realized that in environmental science could affect our food we eat. For example, if we eat clams or oysters they could contain microplastic that we get from washing, littering, or from anything that may contain plastic. They eat plastic thinking it's food, which gets eaten by us. No one thinks anything of it because we think it's safe, but researchers beg to differ. After, learning about this this gave me a whole new outlook on my favorite food, and make me think on why I still continue to eat it.
For biology I was expecting to learn about the reproductive system, and basically get a little recap of how babies are made. I was expecting a whole repeated class of 7th grade. I relearned about AIDS, again and how to have safe sex. Be Proud! Be Responsible! came to our class explaining the dangers of unprotected sex, and how to say what we mean when we're not ready for that experience yet. I was honestly not expecting them to bring in things you'd use for that first time, to get a feel of it, and putting it on a penis model. Keep in mind that this was for education purposes only, and not intended for immaturity.

memorable moment
The most memorable moment I had about this class was getting to learn about a flower. I never knew flowers had genders, but apparently it does. A male flower has pollen, which can be carried by animals or wind to the stigma of a female flower to produce more flowers. Females flowers have ovaries that eventually become fruit that we eat. From here we got to dissect the flower, and look at it closely. I've also found out that male flowers have stamen, which that's a long tube containing the pollen. I was really challenged when we had to dissect a pig, which really got me thinking about the human anatomy. I was trying so hard to understand, and connect this to my story. Thinking about my body and how it works when it comes to the nervous system was complex. It's not easy learning how the nervous system works when neurons send signals from the spinal cord that helps bring on anxiety.
Evolution as scientist
As a scientist I evolved by being more curious and asking more questions to satisfy my curiosity. I took on honors this semester, which was challenging for me, but I managed to turn my work in and learn a lot, for example I learned about the anatomy and physiology of a human and a plant. A male flower contains pollen, which has to get on a stigma of another flower that’s female in order to regenerate. For honors in biology I volunteered for I Love a Clean San Diego, and picked up a lot of trash that affects the environment. There was so much cigarettes butts everywhere, and it was really disgusting because it’s on grass and dirt. As, a scientist I've always wanted to know so many things that can pollute our world, so I did volunteer work to pick up trash within the San Diego communities. Turns out there is more trash than I can carry, which is a lot because it gets weighted by I Love A Clean San Diego. This organization's goal is to reduce trash in areas, and to give people education on impacts affecting our, world, our envirorments.
